WASHINGTON – As the traditional May 1st “college decision day” approaches, education leaders in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, along with 106 of their colleagues, today wrote to Secretary Miguel Cardona of the U.S. Department of Education to call on the department to urgently address the operational issues with the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form that impacts millions of students across the country.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives voted on articles of impeachment against U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas: “The U.S. Constitution sets an extremely high standard for impeachment – ‘high Crimes and Misdemeanors.’ Republicans have failed to produce any evidence that Secretary Mayorkas has violated this constitutional standard.

WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 353,000 jobs in January, and the unemployment rate remained the same at 3.7 percent. Under the President Biden’s leadership, the economy has added 14.8 million jobs. “Today’s jobs report marks the start of another strong year of job growth. This year, Congressional Democrats will continue to prioritize legislation that builds the economy from the bottom up and middle out.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 7024, the Wyden-Smith tax deal: “When Congressional Democrats and President Biden enacted the American Rescue Plan in 2021, we prioritized the economic well-being of working families with the expanded, monthly Child Tax Credit (CTC). The expanded CTC under the American Rescue Plan reached 61 million children and reduced child poverty nearly in half, lifting nearly 3 million children out of poverty. In contrast, this bill is only expected to lift 500,000 children out of poverty.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott, the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, celebrated the U.S. Department of Education (ED) announcement that Norfolk Public Schools will receive $949,264 as part of the Project Prevent grant program. This funding was made possible by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which Congressman Scott supported and President Joe Biden signed into law in 2022.
