WASHINGTONRanking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03), House Committee on Education and Workforce, released the following statement after the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) reached a tentative six-year agreement.

“The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) six-year tentative agreement is evidence that when workers exercise their right to form a union, they can bargain for higher pay, better benefits, safer workplaces, and receive a fair share of the wealth they create.

“I applaud the ILA and USMX for their work to reach a fair and equitable deal, thus ensuring operations can continue at the Port of Virginia and other port facilities along the East and Gulf Coasts. This agreement is a win for workers, their employers, and our economy. I also applaud President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Acting Department of Labor Secretary Su for their unwavering support for workers and for promoting pro-union, pro-worker policies that rebuilt the economy from the bottom-up and the middle-out.”
