Scott Statement on January 6th and Certification of 2024 Presidential Election
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement:
“Today’s orderly proceedings to certify the 2024 presidential election, overseen by Vice President Kamala Harris, stands in stark contrast to the violent insurrection we all witnessed four years ago. On January 6, 2021, a violent mob attacked the U.S. Capitol and tried to overthrow the results of a free and fair election. Many people, including President-elect Trump, have attempted to downplay, dismiss, deny and outright lie about what happened that day. Attempts to rewrite history will fail, just as they failed to overturn the election results four years ago. Today, as Members of Congress fulfilled our constitutional duty, we remember the insurrection and those who were injured and those who lost their lives, and we continue the work to protect our democracy from those who seek to undermine or end it. And the public should recognize those who lie and attempt to rewrite history for partisan political gain as a real threat to our enduring Democracy.”
