NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement: “On October 7, Hersh Goldberg-Polin – an American citizen – was taken hostage by Hamas in their brutal terrorist attack on Israel. Last week, his body was recovered in Gaza along with five other hostages. My thoughts are with his parents, Jon and Rachel, as well as the loved ones of all the hostages.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Today, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) marked the 89th anniversary of President Franklin D. Roosevelt signing the Social Security Act into law by visiting Hampton Senior Center. The Social Security program, including Social Security Disability Insurance, protects our seniors, veterans, children and people with disabilities. The program ensures beneficiaries can pay rent, buy groceries, and fill their prescriptions.

WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 114,000 jobs in July, and the unemployment rate rose to 4.3 from 4.1 percent. Under the Biden-Harris Administration, the economy has added 15.8 million jobs.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) and U.S. Representative Bobby Scott (D-VA-03) applauded the announcement that LS GreenLink is investing $681 million in Chesapeake to build a state-of-the-art facility to manufacture high-voltage subsea cables used for offshore wind farms. LS GreenLink is building the facility thanks to $100 million in tax credits that were made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which incentivizes clean energy investments. The facility marks the first offshore wind cable manufacturer in the United States and is expected to create over 330 jobs.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Bobby Scott (VA-03), a Vice Chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, along with Representatives Gerry Connolly (VA-11), Donald Beyer Jr. (VA-08), Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), Jennifer Wexton (VA-10), and Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) introduced the Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act to enact a series of gun violence prevention measures at the federal level. This bill introduction is timely as June is Gun Violence Awareness Month.
