WASHINGTON – Today, Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after President-elect Trump nominatedRepresentative Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05) to serve as the next Secretary of the Department of Labor. Chavez-DeRemer has served on the Committee on Education and the Workforce and was a cosponsor of the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act.

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Bobby Scott (VA-03) and James Moylan (GU-AL), the co-chairs of the U.S.-Philippines Friendship Caucus, celebrated the U.S. House of Representatives passage of H. Res. 837. This resolution reaffirms the United States’ commitment to invoke the 1951 U.S.-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty if Philippine assets are attacked in the South China Sea. The resolution also calls on the United States and the Philippines to begin joint patrols in the South China Sea, objects to Chinese sovereignty claims to the South China Sea, and continues the Biden Administration’s efforts to implement the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement.

McMahon is chair of the board of the America First Policy Institute, which advocates for school choice and the use of public funds — through vouchers and tax credits — for private educational institutions.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, was named a 2024 Congressional Champion of Child Labor Protections by the Child Labor Coalition. This honor was given to Congressman Scott for his stand against child labor exploitation and his sponsorship of H.R. 4440, the Protecting Children Act, legislation that calls for innovative and sweeping strategies to combat child labor.

WASHINGTON –Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 12,000 jobs in October, and the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1 percent. To date, President Biden is the first President on record without a month of job loss in the seasonally adjusted data. Every other administration has seen at least one month of job loss.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA  – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) celebrated $1,098,795 in grant funding being awarded to nonprofits in Virginia’s Third Congressional District. This funding was awarded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) through federal funds for the Fiscal Year 2024 Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP).
