WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) and U.S. Representatives Jennifer McClellan (D-VA-04), Bobby Scott (D-VA-3), Rob Wittman (R-VA-01), Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-07), Bob Good (R-VA-05), and Jen Kiggans (R-VA-02) released the following statement regarding the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) Inspector General (IG) report on the Richmond Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RPDC) in Sandston. The USPS OIG audited the RPDC because the center is the first consolidated processing center in the country that was opened to centralize outgoing mail and package processing as part of USPS’s 10-year Delivering for America plan.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) voted for H.Res. 1102 the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, the second legislative package that includes the final six regular fiscal year 2024 appropriations bills. This package includes the following funding bills: Defense; Financial Services and General Government; Homeland Security; Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies; Legislative Branch; and State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs.

WASHINGTON – Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, issued the following statement after the Department of Labor (DOL) announced a policy to ensure that excess Special Financial Assistance (SFA) program payments can be refunded to the U.S. government.  Last month, the Central States, Southeast, Southwest Areas Pension Fund (Central States) wrote to the Biden Administration and requested guidance on whether the excess payment in the amount of $127 million it received could be returned. The announced policy is intended to clear the legal pathway for Central States to return the excess payment.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott issued the following statement after voting for H.R. 7521, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. “This week, Members of Congress were given a classified briefing on the national security threats caused by foreign adversary control of communications applications and their ability to easily purchase Americans’ data and influence public opinion. This bill does not ban TikTok, but instead requires the Chinese parent company, ByteDance Ltd., to divest from TikTok within 180 days.

The budget proposal calls for transformational investments that would grow our economy from the bottom up and the middle out, and lower costs for students, workers, and families.

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Sens. Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) and Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA-03) announced $1,000,000 for the Southeast Community Greenway Reconnector project in Newport News, VA. The funding, courtesy of the Inflation Reduction Act's Neighborhood Access and Equity Program, will support the designing and planning of the Southeast Community Greenway Reconnector. Decades ago, the Southeast Newport News Community was almost completely cutoff from downtown due to the construction of Interstate 664. The interstate created a physical barrier separating the majority-minority Southeast Community from the economic opportunities of the downtown district.

WASHINGTON, DC – Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 275,000 jobs in February, and the unemployment rate ticked up to 3.9 percent. Under President Biden’s leadership, the economy has added 14.9 million jobs. President Biden added more jobs in his first two years in office, than his predecessor did in four years in office. “Today’s job report is proof that the policy choices made by Congressional Democrats and the Biden Administration are working.
