Scott Statement on Congressman Gerry Connolly
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), Ranking Member of the Committee on Education and Workforce and Dean of the Virginia Congressional Delegation, issued the following statement after Congressman Gerry Connolly (VA-11) announced that he will not seek re-election and will step down as Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform:
“I have had the distinct honor to serve alongside my friend Gerry Connolly for many years. Gerry has always been a tireless fighter for his constituents, an unwavering advocate for our federal workforce, and a true steward of our democratic institutions. As the Ranking Member of the Oversight Committee, he has spent the last few months on the frontlines of defending Americans from the overreach of the Trump Administration.
“As colleagues, I have deeply valued Gerry’s partnership and friendship. We have worked together to champion polices that strengthen our communities, protect workers’ rights, and expand opportunities for all Americans. His impact will be felt not just in Northern Virginia, but across our Commonwealth and the nation.
“While I am deeply saddened by the news of his health challenges, I know that Gerry will approach this next fight with the same courage and determination that has defined his entire career in public service. I am grateful for our friendship and having the opportunity to serve with him on behalf of Virginians and all Americans. I offer my support and prayers for him and his family during this time.”
