WASHINGTON, DC The House of Representatives today passed S. 30 the Truth in Caller ID Act by voice vote, clearing the way for the President to sign it into law. This bill includes provisions concerning caller ID spoofing based on a bill (H.R. 1110) sponsored by Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott, which was passed by the House earlier this year. The just-passed bill establishes criminal penalties for transmitting misleading or inaccurate caller identification information in order to defraud, cause harm, or wrongfully obtain anything of value. This practice is known as caller ID spoofing.

WASHINGTON, DC Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (D-VA-3), voted today in favor of H.R. 4783, a bill to provide $1.15 billion to fund the final settlement of decades of widespread and rampant discrimination by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The bill passed 256 to152.

Scott (VA-3) made the following statement regarding the US Senate action today to provide $1.15 billion to fund the settlement of claims found to be meritorious in the pending discrimination law suit by Black farmers against the US Department of Agriculture. The settlement covers only those farmers who were left out of the original 1997 Pigford settlement.

At the request of the Majority Leader, I made the customary procedural motion that is regularly made upon receipt of veto messages from a President to schedule the consideration of the veto to a time certain. The question of consideration of the veto has been scheduled for a vote this afternoon. I will vote to sustain the Presidents veto, and I fully expect the veto to be sustained by an overwhelming vote."
