WASHINGTON – Today, Virginia lawmakers gathered at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) to celebrate the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s meritorious selection of Jefferson Lab as the Hub Director for the new High Performance Data Facility (HPDF) – a scientific user facility that will specialize inadvanced infrastructure for data-intensive science. The project to build the HPDF Hub will be a partnership between Jefferson Lab and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), with the two labs forming a joint project team led by Jefferson Lab and charged to create an integrated HPDF Hub design.

WASHINGTON – On Friday, October 6, 2023 Virginia’s Democratic Congressional delegation sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate reports that the Youngkin Administration has removed eligible Virginia voters from the voter rolls and whether any violations of the Voting Rights Act or other federal laws were committed. The letter was signed by U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine (Both D-VA), and Representatives Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03), Gerry Connolly (VA-11), Donald Beyer (VA-08), Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), Jennifer Wexton (VA-10) and Jennifer McClellan (VA-04).

WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 336,000 jobs in September as the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.8 percent. Under President Biden’s leadership, the economy has added roughly 13.9 million jobs. “Today’s jobs report demonstrates that, despite House Republicans’ extremism and inability to govern, the Biden-Harris economic agenda is working.

WASHINGTON – Today, Ranking Member Scott applauded the Biden administration after the Department of Agriculture announced a final rule to strengthen the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) and expand children’s access to free school meals. CEP allows the nation’s highest poverty schools and districts to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting household applications. Instead, schools that adopt CEP are reimbursed according to the percentage of students categorically eligible for free meals, which is based on their participation in other specific means-tested programs.
