WASHINGTON, DC Today, Congressman Bobby Scott signed a letter, along with other colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee, to Attorney General Eric Holder requesting that he "... appoint a special counsel for the investigation and possible prosecution of any violations of federal criminal laws related to the interrogations of detainees in the effective custody or control of the United States in connection with counter-terrorism operations or armed conflicts in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States." Memos released by the Obama Administration last week reflect the Bush Administrations legal justifications for its use of various "enhanced interrogation" techniques, including slamming of detainees into walls, stress positions, confinement in boxes, sleep deprivation and water boarding.

Bobby Scott will be hosting two workshops to provide an overview of the grant opportunities and assistance provisions contained in The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and how local groups can benefit from this landmark legislation. These workshops will be geared towards informing local nonprofit organizations, community groups, and faith groups of the grant opportunities that are available to them through this Act. The workshops will also include summaries of small business assistance provisions, aimed at helping small business in a struggling economy.

WASHINGTON, DC - On Thursday, March 26, 2009, Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott received the Congressional Champion Award from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). According to IACLEA, the award was given to Rep. Scott "for his strong and steadfast leadership and support for campus public safety in Congress." Rep. Scott introduced the Center to Advance Monitor and Preserve University Security (CAMPUS) Safety Act which will create a National Center for Campus Public Safety. This bill was passed out of the House of Representatives on February 4, 2009.
