Scott Votes Against NDAA After Inclusion of Culture War Amendments from Extreme MAGA Republicans
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after voting against the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025:
“The annual NDAA has always been enacted with bipartisan support to address national security threats our country faces. The House Armed Services Committee passed a strong bipartisan bill that would grant a well-deserved pay increase for servicemembers, increase investments in shipbuilding, expand access to childcare for military families, and reaffirm America’s commitment to our allies and partners as we continue to face threats around the globe.
“Unfortunately, Speaker Mike Johnson and the extreme MAGA Republicans played politics with our servicemembers and national security by attaching amendments which attack reproductive health care, demean LGBTQ servicemembers and undermine efforts to have a diverse fighting force. It is my hope that these provisions will be stripped out as the process moves to the Senate, so we can pass a worthwhile NDAA.”
