Scott: House Republicans’ First Bill Protects Wealthy Tax Cheats, Adds $114 Billion to the Deficit
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 23 – the so-called “Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act” which would undo a core provision of the Inflation Reduction Act:
“President Biden and Congressional Democrats enacted the Inflation Reduction Act to address inflation, reduce the deficit and lower health care and energy costs for working families. We paid for it by making corporations and wealthy tax cheats pay their fair share. During the midterm elections, House Republicans promised the American people they would fight inflation and help working families. It is telling that the first bill House Republicans passed with their new majority will do nothing to lower inflation or invest in working families, but it will increase the deficit by $114 billion and enable tax cheating from the wealthy.”
