Scott to Tour HRSD’s SWIFT Research Facility to Highlight Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – TOMORROW, December 17th, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) will tour Hampton Roads Sanitation District's (HRSD) SWIFT (Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow) Research Facility in Suffolk. The SWIFT Program will help address nutrient pollution in the Chesapeake Bay, depletion of the Potomac aquifer, as well as land subsidence in Hampton Roads. Land subsidence makes Hampton Roads especially vulnerable to rising sea levels fueled by climate change.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, recently signed into law by President Biden, makes significant investments in clean water, climate resilience, restoring the Chesapeake Bay, and remediating legacy pollution. Initiatives that address these interconnected issues, like SWIFT, will be eligible to compete for funds authorized by this landmark infrastructure law.
