Scott Statement on Today's Earthquake

August 23, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement about the earthquake that struck the Third District and other parts of the Mid-Atlantic region earlier today:

"I'm grateful that the impact of the earthquake seems to be minimal. All preliminary reports indicate that there were no major accidents, injuries or fatalities. We're in the process of communicating with each of the jurisdictions in the district to further assess the situation. I hope that everyone makes it home safely today and remains safe throughout the evening.

"Due to the earthquake, my Washington, D.C., Newport News, and Richmond offices are closed. In addition, the telephone town hall that was scheduled for this evening has been canceled; an announcement will be made when it is rescheduled."
