Scott Statement on Senate Blocking Mel Watt's Nomination to Lead Federal Housing Finance Agency
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement on the Senate's failure to invoke cloture on Congressman Mel Watt's nomination to be Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA):
"I am extremely disappointed that a minority in the Senate voted to block Congressman Mel Watt's nomination to lead the Federal Housing Finance Agency. A Yale educated lawyer with significant private practice experience in real estate transactions and over 20 years of service on the House Financial Services Committee, Congressman Watt is highly qualified to lead this important agency. He has spent his career in Congress working to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable housing and are protected from deceptive and predatory lending practices. We need Congressman Watt's leadership at the FHFA, and it is my hope that the Senate will reconsider his nomination soon."
