Scott Statement on Retirement of Rep. Bob Goodlatte

November 9, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement on today's announcement by Congressman Bob Goodlatte (VA-06) that he will retire at the end of the 115th Congress:

"Bob Goodlatte has dedicated his life to serving the Commonwealth of Virginia. Bob and I arrived in Congress the same year, and I have enjoyed working with him on issues important to the Commonwealth. Throughout his 25 years of service in Congress, Bob has selflessly advocated for his constituents and stayed true to his values. We also served together for many years on the House Judiciary Committee, and while we did not always agree, we were able to advance several bipartisan bills on behalf of the American people. I look forward to being able to continue to work with him during the remainder of his term, and I wish Bob, his wife Maryellen, his two children and his grandchildren all the best as he transitions back to private life."
