Scott Statement on President's Jobs Speech

September 8, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement following the President's address to a joint session of Congress:

"The President took a step in the right direction tonight by proposing a plan that will put people back to work and provide assistance to the long term unemployed. However, some provisions in the President's plan will be less effective than others, and it appears these less effective provisions may be necessary to attract Republican support. I believe the most important thing Congress can do right now to get Americans back to work is to make targeted investments in our nation's infrastructure. The President's plan begins to make these investments."
