Scott Statement on the Passing of Former Newport News Assistant Planning Director, Vice Mayor and City Councilman Charles “Chuck” Allen

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement upon learning of the passing of former Newport News Assistant Planning Director, Vice Mayor and City Councilman Charles "Chuck" Allen:

"I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my friend Chuck Allen. I've known Chuck for many years dating back to our childhood in the Southeast Community of Newport News. Throughout his life, Chuck was a dedicated public servant and a tireless advocate for the City of Newport News and all of its citizens. He was well respected by his colleagues and was an effective advocate for issues impacting Newport News. A couple of the accomplishments that Chuck helped to make possible were the building of Heritage High School and the restoration of the Downing Gross Cultural Arts Center in the South District. My thoughts and prayers are with Sallie, the Allen family and the many people positively impacted by his work."
