Scott Receives YMCA Congressional Champion Award
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, received the YMCA Congressional Champion Award. This award is presented annually to selected Members of Congress for their work in supporting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The YMCA highlighted Congressman Scott’s work to secure critical child care funds during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with Congressman Scott securing federal community project funding for the YMCA of Virginia Peninsulas’ swimming program as well as his continued advocacy to reauthorize federal child nutrition programs.
“Organizations like the YMCA are an important resource for families in Hampton Roads and across the nation,” said Congressman Scott. “Much of my work in public service has been focused on education and making sure we get children on the right track and keep them on the right track. Y’s across the country help support families by providing child care, teaching swim lessons, engaging children in sports and other enriching activities, and making sure that children have access to nutritious and healthy foods. I am honored to receive this award and look forward to my continued work with YMCA and other organizations to meet the needs of our children and our communities.”
