Scott Receives Legislator of the Year Award from International Brotherhood of Boilermakers
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03), the Chairman of the House Committee on Education and Labor, received the 2021 Legislator of the Year Award from the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. Chairman Scott was presented the award at the Boilermakers' Annual Legislative Education Action Program (LEAP) Conference.
"I am honored to receive this year's Legislator of the Year award," said Congressman Scott."Through the last few years, unions and Congress have met both the urgent challenges spurred by COVID-19, as well as our long-standing priorities to improve the lives of workers. I am proud to have sponsored the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act – the most significant upgrade to U.S. labor law in nearly 80 years, and also pleased that it has passed the House twice now. As we have repeatedly said, organizing a union should be a right, not a fight.
"We also have achieved success by enacting President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and we continue our work on enacting the America COMPETES Act both of which make critical investments in jobs and ensure workers have the skills they need to compete in the modern economy. The key lesson that has been reaffirmed throughout the pandemic is that, when we invest in workers and families, we strengthen our communities and grow our economy from the bottom up and middle out," continued Congressman Scott.
