Scott Receives Highest Score of All Congressional Committee Chairs for Oversight on Trump Administration
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), the Chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor, received the highest score on a new report card from the Lugar Center on the oversight performance of Congressional committees in the just-concluded 116th Congress over the Trump Administration.
"I was very proud to receive such a high score from the Lugar Center for the oversight work done by the Committee on Education and Labor for last Congress," stated Congressman Scott. "I also want to thank my tireless Committee staff who share my dedication to the Committee's and Congress' general oversight role over the Executive Branch. We will remain committed to our robust oversight activities as we move into the 117th Congress."
The final grades reflect the hearing activity in 2019-2020 by 34 House and Senate committees as calculated by the Congressional Oversight Hearing Index (COHI) launched by the Lugar Center in May 2020. The COHI is the first-ever systematic measurement of how each committee in Congress is performing its vital oversight function.
"Congressional committees have an enormous responsibility to perform vigorous oversight of the Administration," said Dan Diller, the Lugar Center Policy Director. "Our statistical research shows that Chairman Bobby Scott aggressively fulfilled this vital duty. Under his leadership, the House Committee on Education and Labor was tied for the highest oversight grade among the 34 Committees that we evaluated in the just completed 116th Congress."
