Scott Receives Distinguished Public Service Award

December 8, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), the Chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor, was honored by the American Educational Research Association (AERA) with their Distinguished Public Service Award. According to AERA, this award is granted annually in recognition of someone who has worked to enact or implement policies that are well grounded in education research, or someone who has supported further education research.

"I was honored to receive the Distinguished Public Service Award from AERA," said Congressman Scott. "During my career in public service I have stressed the importance of creating policy based on evidence and research, and I have made that a core value of my tenure as Chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor. Earlier this year, we delivered a $120 billion investment in K-12 schools across the nation to help them reopen safely and make up for lost time in the classroom. Congress' work to support K-12 schools and institutions of higher education recover from the pandemic is not finished. We must ensure our investments are used to help all students get back on track, and I look forward to continuing this important work with educational researchers, who are essential in informing policymakers of what students and educators need to succeed."

AERA held a virtual ceremony on December 7, 2021 to honor all recipients of their 2021 awards for excellence in educational research.
