Scott Receives Champion for Children Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, received the Champion for Children Award from the First Focus Campaign for Children for his leadership during the 117th Congress on issues impacting children. First Focus Campaign for Children specifically highlighted his work to expand access for affordable child care and improve access to healthy school meals.
“Much of my work in Congress has been focused on making sure we get and keep children on the right track,” said Congressman Scott. “I am honored to receive the Champion for Children Award. We know that children are better off when they receive high-quality child care early in life. That is why I introduced the Child Care for Working Families Act to ensure every child has access to high-quality pre-k. I also worked with President Biden and my colleagues in Congress to reduce child hunger during the pandemic through the enactment of Families First Coronavirus Response Act and the American Rescue Plan Act. As the nation continues to recover from the pandemic, it is critical for Congress to pass a comprehensive, science-driven reauthorization of federal child nutrition programs that meets the needs of all children and families. I am grateful for this recognition as I continue my work in Congress.”
First Focus Campaign for Children is a nonprofit organization affiliated with First Focus, a bipartisan children’s advocacy organization, that grants this distinction to the top 40 members of the U.S. House of Representatives advocating on behalf of children in Congress.
