Scott Marks the 4th Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act by Calling on Virginians to Enroll in Coverage by March 31st

March 21, 2014

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - This weekend, Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott will mark the fourth anniversary of the enactment of the Affordable Care Act by calling on uninsured Virginians to enroll in coverage by March 31st. President Obama signed this historic law on March 23, 2010.

“Sunday marks the fourth anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare,” Rep. Scott stated. “Four years later, we are seeing the law's provisions improve the lives of millions of people in the Commonwealth and across the United States.”

“We know that the law's implementation has not been perfect," continued Rep. Scott. "But the truth is millions of Americans are better off now than they were four years ago. No one can ever again be denied coverage for a pre-existing condition. No one ever again has to worry that one major illness will mean bankruptcy for his or her family. No senior citizen will ever again have to pay a co-pay for key preventive services, such as cancer screenings. Despite the sound bites and misinformation that have spread over the past four years, these benefits are improving and will continue to improve the financial security of hardworking American families."

"Additionally, Obamacare makes health insurance available to all Americans," Rep. Scott continued. "There are many people who - for the first time in their entire lives - can now access affordable and comprehensive health insurance through the Marketplace. Open enrollment for 2014 ends on March 31st, so if you, a family member, or a friend needs health insurance, now is the time to select a plan and get covered."
