Scott to Host Webinar to Help Constituents Apply for Public Service Loan Forgiveness
To date, roughly 4,000 Virginians have received $233 million in debt relief from the Public Service Loan Program thanks to the Biden Administration
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – On Thursday, Chairman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) will host a webinar—in coordination with the Office of Federal Student Aid and the Student Borrower Protection Center—to provide constituents with the resources and information they need to seek Public Service Loan Forgiveness(PSLF). The PSLF program was designed to offer a pathway to loan forgiveness for eligible borrowers employed by a federal, state, local, or tribal government or nonprofit organization.
Unfortunately, the previous administration did not faithfully implement PSLF and despite the Chairman holding hearings, sending letters, and making public statements, they never took meaningful action to address borrowers concerns. However, in October 2021, thanks to the Biden Administration, the Department of Education announcedsignificant reforms to expand borrowers' access to the program and finally receive the forgiveness to which they are entitled. As a result, roughly 4,000 Virginians have received $233 million in debt relief from the PSLF programs.
