Scott to Host Fourth Information Session on Obamacare in Newport News on Monday

September 11, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott will be hosting his fourth information session on the Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as Obamacare, this Monday, September 16th at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia.

Joining the Congressman at Monday's session will be Tamia Booker, Executive Officer for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Region III and Kathy May, Director of Virginia Consumer Voices for Healthcare.

"Major provisions of the Affordable Care Act take effect in January 2014 and open enrollment through the Health Insurance Marketplaces begins this October," stated Rep. Scott. "Unfortunately, the amount of misinformation about Obamacare from opponents of the new law is hindering many small businesses and individuals in my district from understanding how the new law can help them access affordable health insurance. Many small businesses currently qualify for tax credits that can assist them in purchasing health insurance plans for their employees. Additionally, the new Health Insurance Marketplaces will allow individuals without insurance or those looking for a better deal to purchase affordable insurance from qualified health plans in the Marketplaces. Nearly 18 million Americans may be eligible for tax credits that will help them pay for their insurance through the Marketplaces. Obamacare is the law of the land and my constituents deserve to have all the necessary information available to them to understand how this new law will help improve their lives and the lives of their families."

The Newport News information session will be hosted on the following date and location:

Monday, September 16th - Newport News
6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Gethsemane Baptist Church
5405 Roanoke Avenue
Newport News, VA 23605
