Scott Congratulates Joseph Whitaker onYears of Public Service

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement regarding today's announcement that Newport News City Councilman Joseph Whitaker will not seek another term on City Council:

"I congratulate Councilman Whitaker on a distinguished career in public service. Councilman Whitaker has served the South District with distinction since his election in 2004. Prior to serving on City Council, Councilman Whitaker served on the Newport News City Planning Commission. He also worked on behalf of the southeast community in many capacities, which includes maintaining his long association with the Boys and Girls Club, establishing a scholarship with the Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority for students who reside in public housing and fundraising for diabetes research with his annual 20 mile walks. I will miss working with him as a member of the Newport News City Council, but I look forward to continuing to work with him as he enters this next chapter of his career in public service."
