Scott Congratulates Hampton Mayor Molly Joseph Ward on White House Appointment

September 30, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement on the appointment of Hampton Mayor Molly Joseph Ward to serve as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director for the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs:

"I congratulate Mayor Ward on this exciting new endeavor. Mayor Ward has faithfully served the City of Hampton as its Mayor since 2008 and before that as the City's Treasurer. Mayor Ward led the City's successful effort to designate Fort Monroe as a National Monument. While her term as Mayor comes to an end, it is clear that Hampton is a better place to live and work thanks to her leadership. Our federal government is gaining a very smart, capable and dedicated public servant and I know that the President will benefit greatly from Molly's counsel. I will miss working with her on local issues impacting Hampton, but I am excited that I will continue to work with her in her new capacity at the White House."
