Scott Applauds Hampton University Receiving Over $200,000 in Federal Funds In Response to Bomb Threats

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Congressman Bobby Scott, the Ranking Member of the Committee on Education and the Workforce, issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Education announced that Hampton University will receive $214,317 in Project School Emergency Response to Violence(Project SERV) grants. 

“Last year, bomb threats were made to multiple Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including Hampton University. Students must be afforded the opportunity of a safe, learning environment. Last year, I pushed the federal government to take action, and I am pleased to see the Department of Education issued this grant funding. This money will be used to help students at Hampton address their mental health concerns following the traumatic events last February.”
