Scott Announces Navigator Grants Awarded in Virginia
WASHINGTON, DC – This week, Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) announced that Navigator grants totaling over $1.7 million have been awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to organizations in the Commonwealth of Virginia. These organizations and their staff will provide in-person assistance to consumers in Virginia who want additional help shopping for and enrolling in plans in the Health Insurance Marketplaces beginning this fall. Advanced Patient Advocacy, LLC and Virginia Poverty Law Center, Inc. have both been awarded Navigator grants in Virginia.
"One of the biggest and most important parts of Obamacare is the establishment of Health Insurance Marketplaces," Rep. Scott said. "The Navigators will be a key resource to help many consumers understand their coverage options in the Marketplace. Navigators are based in local communities and will provide support to consumers so that they can more easily navigate the Marketplace. In addition, HHS has also begun training other individuals who will be providing in-person assistance, such as agents and brokers and certified application counselors."
"These Navigator grants build on the progress that has already been made in outreach and education about the new Marketplaces," continued Rep. Scott. "Consumers can now learn about the Marketplaces through www.HealthCare.gov along with a HHS hotline that is already up and running. While these Navigator grants will assist Virginians in obtaining health coverage, we all need to continue to spread the word about open enrollment beginning on October 1."
