NEWPORT NEWS, VACongressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) announced the beginning of the 27th Annual Third Congressional District High School Art Competition. The competition is open to all high school students (grades 9-12) residing in the Third Congressional District of Virginia. Entries are due by 5:00 p.m. on May 18, 2020.

An Artistic Discovery is a nation-wide high school art competition sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives and is an opportunity to recognize the artistic talents of our youth. The nationwide competition involves more than 50,000 talented high school students. Acceptable entries include, but are not limited to, paintings, drawings, and photography. The first-place winners traditionally receive a scholarship and travel to Washington, D.C. to attend a Congressional Reception in July to honor of all the winners from around the nation. The first-place entry from each participating congressional district will also be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel in the United States Capitol Building for an entire year, where it will be seen by hundreds of thousands of people who visit the Capitol.

Due to the continued spread of COVID-19, this year's art contest will be conducted virtually. Students will be able to submit photos of their artwork via e-mail to:Va03.congressionalartcontest@mail.house.gov. Additionally, in lieu of the in person annual 3rdcongressional district art competition awards reception, Congressman Scott's office will launch a digital gallery of this year's submissions on his website.

More information, including contest guidelines and required student release forms, can be found on Congressman Scott's website at: /artcontest.
