Scott Announces the 21st Annual Third Congressional District Art Competition
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) announced the beginning of the 21st Annual Third Congressional District High School Art Competition. The competition is open to all high school students (grades 9-12) residing in the Third Congressional District of Virginia. Entries are due Thursday, April 24, 2014.
An Artistic Discovery is a nationwide program coordinated by Members of the United States House of Representatives to recognize the artistic talents of our youth. The nationwide competition involves more than 50,000 talented high school students. In the past, over 200 Members of Congress have participated in the program.
This year acceptable entries may include, but are not limited to, paintings, drawings, and photography. The first place winner will receive a scholarship and travel to Washington, DC to attend a Congressional Reception in honor of all the winners from around the nation. The first place entry for each congressional district will also be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the United States Capitol Building for an entire year, where it will be seen by hundreds of thousands of people who visit the Capitol.
Representative Scott will present the first place winner and other finalists with a certificate and various other prizes at two upcoming receptions in the Third Congressional District.
All entries must be submitted by Thursday, April 24, 2014. Students can submit their entries to either of Congressman Scott's District Offices in Newport News and Richmond. The Newport News District Office is located at 2600 Washington Avenue, Suite 1010, Newport News, VA 23607. The Richmond District Office is located at 400 N 8th Street, Suite 430, Richmond, Virginia 23219.
