Scott Announces $1.1 Million Modeling and Simulation Grant to Old Dominion University
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), the Chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor and Co-Chair of the Congressional Modeling and Simulation Caucus, issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Education announced a $1,151,446 Modeling and Simulation grant to Old Dominion University (ODU) .
"I was pleased to see the Department of Education award this important grant to Old Dominion University to increase opportunities for students to study modeling and simulation. ODU's Virginia Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation Center is a national leader in modeling and simulation. This grant will help further undergraduate and graduate involvement in cutting edge research, leveraging modeling and simulation technology to address some of the most significant challenges of our day.
"I am especially proud of this ongoing work since, in 2008, I authored the provision for this specific grant program when Congress last reauthorized the Higher Education Act. The modeling and simulation industry continues to expand rapidly and the grants announced today will help ensure that our nation maintains its competitive edge in this field. I will continue to advocate for our institutions of higher education to build and expand these programs to prepare the next generation of leaders and innovators in modeling and simulation."
