Scott and Campus Safety Advocates Call for Passage of the CAMPUS Safety Act During National Campus Safety Awareness Month

September 12, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC – As students across the nation begin another school year, Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott will host a press conference with campus safety advocates to call for passage of H.R. 2342, the CAMPUS Safety Act. The bill is also timely because September is National Campus Safety Awareness Month.

The CAMPUS Safety Act will create a National Center for Campus Public Safety (the "Center"), to be administered through the U.S. Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program. The Center will train campus public safety agencies, encourage research to strengthen college safety and security, and serve as a clearinghouse for the dissemination of relevant campus public safety information. Congressman Scott has introduced the CAMPUS Safety Act in the last three Congresses and it passed the House of Representatives overwhelmingly in the 110th and 111th Congresses.
