NEWPORT NEWS, VA - On Saturday, January 19, 2008 at their 2008 Winter Gala, the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce recognized Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (D-VA-03) with the Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award. The Chamber also recognized the late Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis (R-VA-01) with the Distinguished Citizen of the Year award. Previous recipients of the award include Newport News Shipbuilding, former Congressman Thomas N. Downing, former Congressman Herb Bateman, former Delegate Alan Diamonstein, Dr. McKinley L. Price, DDS, and former State Senator Hunter Andrews.

"I am honored to be recognized as one of this year's Distinguished Citizens with my late colleague Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis," said Rep. Scott. "The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce is an important advocate for the economic and business interests of the Virginia Peninsula. I look forward to working with the Chamber in the years ahead to ensure that the Virginia Peninsula remains one of the most competitive economic regions in the nation."
