Rep. Scott Announces the Eighteenth Annual Third Congressional District Art Competition

WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) has announced the beginning of the Eighteenth Annual Third Congressional District High School Art Competition for 2011. The Third Congressional District Art Competition of Virginia is open to all High School students (grades 9-12) residing in the Third Congressional District of Virginia.

An Artistic Discovery is a nationwide program coordinated by Members of the United States House of Representatives to recognize the artistic talents of our youth. The nationwide competition involves more than 50,000 talented high school students. In the past, over 200 Members of Congress have participated in the program. Representative Scott has participated every year that he has served in Congress.

This year acceptable entries of the contestants may include, but are not limited to: paintings, drawings, and photography. The first place winner will receive a scholarship and travel to DC to attend the Congressional Reception in honor of all the winners nationwide. The first place entry for each congressional district will also be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the United States Capitol Building for an entire year, where it will be seen by tens of thousands of people who visit the U.S. Capitol.

Representative Scott will present the first place winner and other finalists with a certificate, a t-shirt, and various other prizes at two upcoming receptions in the Third Congressional District.

All entries are due in Congressman Scott's office by Friday, April 15, 2011. The Richmond metropolitan area entries will go to 400 N. Eighth Street, Suite 430, Richmond, Virginia 23219. Entrants living on the Peninsula will take their work to the Scott office at 2600 Washington Avenue, Suite 1010, Newport News, VA 23607. Students living in Norfolk or Portsmouth will take their entries to the Wilder Center on the campus of Norfolk State University – Thursday afternoons only from 3-5 PM, at 700 Park Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23504 Room 140.
