10.28.10 | Scott Statement on the Passing of former Congressman Owen Pickett
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement on the passing of former Congressman Owen Picket, who represented the 2nd Congressional District of Virginia from 1987 to 2001:
"The citizens of Hampton Roads and the Commonwealth of Virginia have lost a dedicated public servant," said Rep. Scott. "I served with Owen in both the Virginia House of Delegates and in Congress. He was a true statesman and an effective legislator, who enjoyed great respect and admiration from both sides of the aisle. Even after leaving Congress nearly a decade ago, Owen remained an important voice on issues affecting South Hampton Roads and Virginia. This was exemplified by Owen's recent appointment as co-chair of Governor McDonnell's Commission on Military and National Security Facilities, which has been leading state efforts to save Joint Forces Command. His absence will certainly be felt."
