10.14.10 | Rep. Scott Honored as One of the Most Valuable Leaders in Congress on Issues Important to Children
WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Bobby Scott (VA-3) has been named a "Champion for Children" by the First Focus Campaign on Children, a national, bi-partisan child advocacy group. The honor recognizes Rep. Scott as one of the most valuable leaders in the United States Congress for his priority and efforts to improve the well-being of children.
Bruce Lesley, President of the First Focus Campaign for Children, explains why Congressman Scott received this honor. "Representative Scott has raised the profile of matters important to children in Congress and has served as a true leader on issues such as children's health and juvenile justice. Children cannot vote, hold press conferences, or donate to political campaigns to thank the Members of Congress that support them and protect their interests. And because of that, we are presenting this award on behalf of children to recognize our nation's top public officials who take action to make them national priority. We look forward to working with Representative Scott to continue protecting America's next generation of leaders."
Of the 100 members recognized by First Focus, Rep. Scott was listed in the top fifty awardees called the "Champions for Children" on account of their extraordinary efforts to protect and improve the future of America's next generation. An additional 50 Members were awarded the "Defenders of Children" and have been recognized for their support of policies that advance the well being of children.
"I thank the First Focus Campaign for Children for this honor and for making children a national priority. We must do all we can to protect our country's most valuable asset, the children and future generations of the United States. Nothing is more important," said Congressman Scott.
