02.19.10 | Scott leads Congressional Delegation to Haiti

February 19, 2010

WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (D-VA-03) is leading a Congressional Delegation to Haiti today, to review and assess the needs of the on-going humanitarian operation there.  Other members in the delegation are Representatives Michael Burgess (R-TX-26), Dennis Kucinich (D-OH-10), Michael Capuano (D-MA-8), and Gwen Moore (D-WI-4).

"This trip will provide an important opportunity for five Members of Congress to witness the ongoing relief efforts in Haiti," said Rep. Scott.  "Americans have donated hundreds of millions of dollars to charities and thousands of American civilian and military personnel are on-the-ground assisting the Haitian people.  The trip will allow us to assess what else Congress can to do to support the recovery in Haiti."

The website for more information on what can be done to help the victims of the earthquake is www.usaid.gov.  U.S. efforts are being coordinated through the United States Agency for International Development in cooperation with other federal, state, and local agencies.  Haitian citizens in the U.S. attempting to contact relatives can call 1-888-407-4747.
