01.28.09 | Rep. Scott Supports the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

January 28, 2009

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  The goal of the legislation is to stabilize the American economy and save and create three to four million jobs.  The legislation passed the House by a vote of 244 to 188.

Voting in favor of the legislation, Representative Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (D-VA-03) issued the following statement:

"Our economy desperately needs a jumpstart after eight years of the failed economic policies of the Bush Administration that resulted in the worst job growth since the Great Depression," said Rep. Scott.  "President Obama and Congress must act quickly to stabilize our economy.  The legislation passed by the House provides for long overdue investments in modernizing our infrastructure, improving education, expanding access to healthcare and transitioning to clean energy.  The federal government cannot idly sit by as our nation dives deeper into a recession.  If enacted quickly and implemented responsibly, this legislation will help save and create millions of jobs and help stabilize our economy."
