Scott Encourages Soon-to-be Naturalized Citizens to Be Aware of Virginia's Voter Registration Deadline
WASHINGTON, DC – Monday, October 15th is Virginia's voter registration deadline. Soon-to-be naturalized citizens living in Virginia who have been scheduled for a naturalization ceremony after the registration deadline and wish to vote in this year's election should contact U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to request to participate in an earlier ceremony so they can register before the October 15th deadline. Please visit https://infopass.uscis.gov to schedule an appointment to visit a USCIS office to see if this can be arranged. Please be aware that if USCIS is able to accommodate an earlier ceremony, travel to a different location in Virginia may be necessary.
"We want to make sure that all those who are technically eligible to vote this November have the ability to register to vote before the registration deadline," said Rep. Scott. "It would be unfortunate to be denied a fundamental right of American citizenship, the right to vote, because they became a citizen a few days after the registration deadline. If this situation applies to you, I strongly encourage you to contact U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to see if your ceremony can be scheduled before October 15th."
