Rep. Scott Says General Petraeus Testimony Promotes Same Iraq Policy

Press Release
(Washington D.C.) - Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (D-VA-03) released the following statement after the two days of testimony by General David Petraeus before the US Congress:

“For the last six years, we have heard he same refrain, 'Trust us, Victory (whatever that means this month) is right around the corner, just us give a little more time and a lot more money; and if you do not believe that, you are not patriotic, you don’t support the troops and you would rather have defeat and surrender than victory.'

"I was therefore not surprised that the Administration intends to continue the troop levels at the maximum sustainable level for the foreseeable future.

"We need to withdraw our troops from Iraq and that withdrawal should be in a timeframe that is consistent with our national security interests.  Unfortunately, no discussion of an appropriate time for withdrawal can occur while the administration insists on remaining in Iraq indefinitely."
