WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott issued the following statement in reaction to the interim reported released Wednesday by the Inspector General for the Department of Veterans Affairs:
"At this time, I am not calling on the Secretary to resign. The Inspector General's interim report conspicuously does not recommend personnel changes at this time. Further, I believe a power vacuum at the top of the V.A. may further exacerbate the current problem, because there is no telling how long it will take the President to nominate and the Senate to confirm a replacement who will then take months to familiarize him or herself with V.A. leadership.

Mr. Speaker, I join the author of the bill, the gentleman from Wisconsin and chair of the Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Crime, Mr. Sensenbrenner; my colleague from Virginia, the chair of the full committee, Mr. Goodlatte; the gentleman from Michigan and ranking member, Mr. Conyers; Mr. Nadler; and my colleague from Virginia (Mr. Forbes) for proposing this amended version of the USA FREEDOM Act. I commend my colleagues for working together to develop a bipartisan approach to addressing some of the shortcomings in our foreign intelligence surveillance statutes.
Washington, D.C. – The House of Representatives today approved by a vote of 302-121 the USA Freedom Act (H.R. 3361), a bipartisan bill authored by Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wisc.) that ends bulk collection of data by the government and reforms our nation’s intelligence-gathering programs operated under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott issued the following statement on his No vote to H.R. 4031, the Department of Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act of 2014:
"I strongly support accountability at the V.A. The allegations of misconduct and the misrepresentation of data must be fully investigated and those responsible must be held accountable. However, we must not ignore the real problem and that is the unacceptably long wait times at the V.A. Properly recording the wait times will not fix the problem.

Madam Speaker, while I support the bipartisan efforts we are taking today with several bills to enhance our effort to prevent, investigate, and prosecute acts of sex trafficking, I must raise serious concerns about H.R. 4225, the Stop Advertising Victims of Exploitation Act of 2014, which I cannot support in its present form.
To be sure, the bill has the laudable goal of prosecuting those who knowingly facilitate sex trafficking by advertising certain prohibited sex acts. However, I must object to the mandatory minimum sentencing provisions which this new offense would trigger under existing statutes.
