WASHINGTON, DC –TODAY, Representatives Bobby Scott (VA-03), Rob Wittman (VA-01), and John Sarbanes (MD-03), all co-chairs of the bipartisan Chesapeake Bay Task Force, introduced bipartisan legislation to provide more resources to Chesapeake Bay conservation efforts. The Chesapeake Watershed Investments for Landscape Defense (Chesapeake WILD) Act will create a new grant program to assist local entities with their work on the ground restoring and protecting fish and wildlife habitats throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Res. 660, a resolution to establish further procedures for the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump: “Every Member of Congress swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, and today’s vote was part of adhering to that solemn obligation. This resolution will establish procedures for how the House of Representatives will go forward with public hearings as part of the next phase of the impeachment inquiry.

By rolling back standards for accreditors, the Department is undermining a key driver of institutional accountability, further exposing students and taxpayers to fraud and abuse at the hands of low-quality schools.

Mr. SCOTT of Virginia. Mr. Speaker, I thank the gentlewoman for holding this Special Order and recognizing the legacy of Congressman John Conyers. I want to join those who are honoring his legacy. He served in Congress longer than any other African American. He represented Michigan and the Nation for over 50 years. He was a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus, and he served as dean of the House. He was a giant in civil rights. He often bragged about being the only candidate for elective office ever endorsed by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the House voted unanimously to pass the Dignity in Aging Act, a bipartisan proposal to reauthorize the Older Americans Act (OAA) that increases funding for vital programs that help aging Americans live independently and with dignity. The OAA currently serves roughly 11 million older Americans, including 3 million older Americans who regularly rely on OAA programs to meet their basic needs.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), chairman of the House Committee on Education and Labor, sent a letter to Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos threatening to subpoena documents regarding the Department’s role in the abrupt closure of Dream Center Education Holdings, a for-profit college chain that collapsed last year. The letter is Chairman Scott’s second request for documents and transcribed interviews that would shed light on the Department’s behind-the-scenes effort to prop up the struggling schools.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Chairman Bobby Scott (VA-03) released the following statement in response to an internal analysis released by the Department of Agriculture (USDA) showing nearly one million children will lose automatic access to free school meals under its proposed changes to eligibility for the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP). “The internal analysis released by the Department of Agriculture shows that the impact of its proposed rule would be even worse than we had feared.
