WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled unanimously in the case of Groff v. DeJoy. “Religious freedom is a fundamental American value.  Our civil rights laws protect workers from religious discrimination and proactively require employers to provide accommodations for religious exercise. Today’s Supreme Court ruling in Groff v. DeJoy clarified employers’ obligation to provide these reasonable accommodations when an employee’s sincerely held religious observances and practices conflict with work requirements.

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled in the cases of Students for Fair Admissions v. President & Fellows of Harvard College and Students for Fair Admissions v. UNC. “The Supreme Court has long held that our nation has a compelling interest in fostering racially diverse campuses.  Holistic college admissions practices that narrowly tailor the use of race as one of many factors in evaluating prospective students are a key to fostering such diversity in higher education.  Such admissions policies not only support historically underserved students—research confirms that diverse campuses also provide all students with a quality, well-rounded education. Today the Supreme Court decided, with little regard for the repercussions, that institutions of higher education cannot pursue these compelling interests.

WASHINGTON – Today, House Republicans voted to pass H.R. 3799, which undermines the Affordable Care Act and jeopardizes essential consumer protections for health care consumers.  This legislative package includes H.R. 2813, which prevents critical consumer protections from being applied to stop loss insurance, and H.R. 2868, which erodes consumer protections and increases costs for older and sicker Americans.

Since taking office, President Biden has created 13.1 million jobs, which is more jobs created in 28 months than any previous President has created in a single term.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) introduced the American Offshore Wind Opportunity Act to develop America’s maritime and shipbuilding workforce to meet the growing demand of the offshore wind industry. The legislation requires the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) to conduct a study to inform public and private investment in shipbuilding and workforce training to support the Biden Administration’s goal of deploying 30 gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2030. The study would also identify ways that current policies could be strengthened to support American workers.
