WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, June 30, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, U.S. Congressmen Scott Rigell, Bobby Scott, and Rob Wittman, as well as Norfolk Mayor Paul Fraim and Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms, will host a regional conference on sea level rise at Old Dominion University in Norfolk. The bipartisan forum will focus on meeting the challenges Hampton Roads faces due to sea level rise and land subsidence and how to promote action at the federal, state and local level to address the region’s needs. The conference will feature two panels of federal policy experts and regional stakeholders that will respectively discuss federal policy needs and the process of coordinating work on these issues across government, academia and the private sector.

U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott said he's pleased Obama has flatly ruled out sending ground troops back into Iraq.

"I think there's just an overwhelming opposition to getting re-involved in a ground war in Iraq," Scott said, adding that the president should keep the option open to intervene in some other way if necessary.

That could be a good sign for regional efforts to attract federal attention - and money - for solving what might be Hampton Roads' trickiest problem.

A combination of rising water and sinking land make the region one of the most vulnerable areas in the country to sea level rise.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the life and legacy of Raymond H. Boone, Sr., who passed away on June 3, 2014. Ray devoted his entire life to fighting for justice and equality, becoming one of the most trusted voices in news in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Born in Suffolk, Virginia, Ray earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Boston University and a master's degree in political science from Howard University. Ray's first foray into the newspaper business was as a reporter for the Quincy, Massachusetts Patriot-Ledger and later he worked for the Suffolk, Virginia News-Herald. He also worked as a reporter for the Norfolk, Virginia Journal and Guide. He eventually made his way to Richmond, where he became the editor of the Richmond Afro-American Planet, a position he held for 15 years.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Congressman Bobby Scott helped renovate a house Saturday for Habitat For Humanity. Congressman Scott and his staff members helped with the project on Bold Street in Portsmouth. Habitat For Humanity South Hampton Roads recently shifted from building new homes to rehab projects. The upcoming projects support the organization’s Rebuilding The American Dream Initiative.

People packed An Achievable Dream Middle and High School to be a part of it. They wasted no time venting their frustrations to the audience and their representative, who was in town from Washington.
