A new bill from House Democrats, previewed exclusively to Vox, aims to give laid-off or furloughed workers a way to stay on their health insurance plan at no extra cost to them — through increased subsidies with the existing health insurance plan COBRA. COBRA allows laid-off workers to keep buying into their health insurance plans.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Today, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) announced that colleges and universities in Virginia’s Third Congressional District would receive $46 million in emergency funding as a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which Congress passed on March 27. At least half of the funding each institution receives will be distributed to students in the form of emergency cash assistance grants to help pay for housing, food, and other basic essentials.
