WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressional Voting Rights Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Bobby Scott (VA-03), Rep. Nikema Williams (GA-05), Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) and Rep. Marc Veasey (TX-33) issued a forceful rebuke of President Donald Trump’s March 25, 2025, Executive Order entitled Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections. The letter, sent directly to Trump and signed by an additional 55 members of Congress, outlines the unconstitutional and illegal overreach of the order, which threatens to disenfranchise millions of American voters and undermine the integrity of our elections.

WASHINGTON  – On Monday, October 30, 2023, Virginia’s Democratic Congressional delegation sent a follow-up letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland calling on the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the Youngkin Administration’s improper removal of nearly 3,400 eligible voters from the rolls. The letter was signed by U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine (Both D-VA), and Representatives Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03), Gerry Connolly (VA-11), Donald Beyer (VA-08), Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), Jennifer Wexton (VA-10) and Jennifer McClellan (VA-04).

Milligan, striking down Alabama’s racially-gerrymandered congressional map. “This decision affirms key provisions of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, the Crown Jewel of  the Civil Rights Movement that so many of our friends, mentors, and role models paid a high price  to see enacted.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Black men in the Newport News community had their chance to share their concerns and vision for the future with Virginia lawmakers on Friday.

Senator Tim Kaine and Congressman Bobby Scott held a roundtable discussion with almost two dozen Black male leaders. A multitude of topics were brought up, including mental health resources, student loan forgiveness, and wealth disparity.

However, those present said the biggest goal was to actually formulate a plan for action.

Voting Rights

Congressman Scott believes that voting is the very foundation of our democracy. To underscore his belief, he often quotes the Supreme Court's decision in Wesberry v. Sanders (1964), where the Court states:

No right is more precious in a free country than that of having a voice in the election of those who make the laws under which, as good citizens, we must live. Other rights, even the most basic, are illusory if the right to vote is undermined.
