Scott Hosts Roundtable on School Safety Following Shooting at Richneck Elementary School
On Tuesday, January 17th 2023, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, convened a roundtable on school safety following the recent shooting at Richneck Elementary School.
“In the wake of this tragedy, we must avoid engaging in knee-jerk reactions that create a culture of fear and anxiety in the classroom and do not actually reduce school violence,” said Congressman Scott. “Credible research shows that a continuum of comprehensive, evidenced-based prevention and intervention strategies will greatly reduce crime and save money. And the research reveals that these programs are most effective when provided in the context of a coordinated, collaborative local strategy involving public and private entities.”
Congressman Scott was joined by researchers, advocates and stakeholders to discuss evidence-based solutions to preventing violence in schools and keeping students and staff safe in the classroom.
