Scott to Visit Community Health Center as House Democrats Continue Defending ACA from GOP Attacks

June 13, 2019
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – TOMORROW, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) will visit the Southeastern Virginia Health System’s (SEVHS) newest facility in Newport News. Formerly known as the Peninsula Institute for Community Health, SEVHS is one of the leading community-based health providers in Hampton Roads and has benefited from the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Congressman Scott will host a roundtable discussion with physicians, nurses, and other community health officials before embarking on a tour of the facility.

Topics discussed at the roundtable will include how the ACA has been instrumental in aiding the SEVHS and other community health centers, as well as a discussion of how an ongoing federal lawsuit in Texas filed by Republican governors could unravel the ACA. The Trump Administration has refused to defend the ACA and has instead asked the court to eliminate every last protection and benefit provided by the ACA.  And recently in Congress on April 3, 2019, 185 House Republicans endorsed President Trump’s campaign to destroy the ACA by opposing a resolution condemning the Administration’s latest assault on Americans’ health care.
